Marble Handling & Care Guide

Marble is a timeless natural stone, prized for its elegance, veining, and luxurious feel. Each piece is unique, and with the right care, it will remain beautiful for generations. Because marble is also delicate and porous, it requires thoughtful handling and maintenance. Follow these guidelines to keep your Art Dei Marmi furniture in pristine condition.

Handling & Installation

Before You Move

  • Lift vertically, never flat: Always move large marble slabs or table tops on their edge, never lying flat.

  • Never drag: Dragging can chip or crack the surface and edges.

  • Team effort: Marble is heavy and fragile, always lift with at least two people, or rely on professional movers.

  • Clear pathways: Ensure hallways and doorways are wide and free of obstacles.

  • Disassemble when possible: Detach removable tops or legs for easier and safer handling.

  • Protective gear: Wear non-slip gloves for grip and safety.

Protective Wrapping

  • Wrap marble in moving blankets, foam, or bubble wrap to cushion during transport.

  • For large pieces, place inside a wooden crate or frame for maximum protection.

  • Avoid stacking or placing heavy weight on marble during transport.

During Handling

  • Always place marble on a stable, even surface.

  • Check all joints and attachments before reassembling.

  • Wipe down gently after installation to remove dust or packaging residue.

Important: For oversized or very heavy pieces, we strongly recommend professional delivery and installation services.

Daily Cleaning

  • Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and a few drops of mild, pH-neutral soap.

  • Dry immediately with a clean towel to avoid water spots.

  • Never use vinegar, bleach, ammonia, or acidic/abrasive cleaners — they can dull or etch the surface.

Protection Tips

  • Always use coasters, placemats, and trivets under glasses, plates, and hot cookware.

  • Place felt pads under decorative objects to prevent scratches.

  • Seal your marble every 6–12 months (depending on use) to protect against stains and preserve its finish.

Stain Removal

  • Oil-based stains: Apply a poultice of baking soda and water.

  • Organic stains (coffee, wine, food): Gently use hydrogen peroxide with a few drops of ammonia (test a small area first).

  • For deep stains, etching, or refinishing, consult a professional marble technician.

What to Avoid

  • Acidic spills like lemon juice, wine, and coffee, wipe immediately.

  • Rough scrub pads or steel wool that can scratch the surface.

  • Heavy or sharp objects directly on marble, always use a protective layer.
